i said it before, but i’ll say it one more time: i’m going to take a break from social media stuff for a while. how long is a while? i dunno. as much as i enjoyed using this site, it started eating up more and more and more of my free time. i feel like i ought to be more productive, or at least actually attack that backlog with more gusto. now’s a good a time as any.
i will not delete this blog, but i will be logging out of the account and taking the app off my phone. let it be a memento to the mildly amusing times i had for the past five or so years.
i’m not totally dropping off the internet either, so here’s where else you can find me:
“I do need a gun. I need a big gun. I need a REALLY big gun…”
Doom is easily one of the biggest classics in video games, and is just as important to gaming history as Mario, Sonic, or Tetris. Doom didn’t create the First Person Shooter, but it established many important features and aspects for the genre, and it sure as hell popularized it. A product of a small team’s love of sci-fi, horror, and intense action, Doom was released in late 1993 and took the video game market by storm.
At this point, Doom is over 25 years old and you might be asking yourself, “Well, do I even need to play it? It’s probably old and lame”. YOU COULD NOT BE MORE WRONG. To this day, Doom is still one of the best shooters of all time, and it has an extremely dedicated community that regularly creates new content to be enjoyed. Unfortunately, because of the game’s age, it can be a little confusing to know how to break into the series. Lucky for you, I have written an in-depth guide on How To Doom.
Yakuza, or Ryu ga Gotoku (龍が如く, literally means “Like A Dragon”) as it’s known in Japan, is a series of JRPG/3D Brawler video games based on the criminal underworld of Japan. You may have heard of them before, you may have not. The Yakuza series is criminally underrated outside of Japan, which is a real shame because these games are nothing short of absolutely fantastic.
This guide will cover what the games are like, why I think they’re worth your time, and help make heads and tales of all of the games and spinoffs. If you aren’t into heavy reading, HyperBitHero made a video overview of the entire series, though it’s almost an hour long and has some minor spoilers.
“If you would face me… take up arms, newly Arisen!“
Dragon’s Dogma is an open-world action RPG, developed by Capcom and directed by Hideaki Itsuno, who’s known for directing the very successful Devil May Cry 3 and Devil May Cry 4 games. It originally came out for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2012, and an expanded version titled Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen came out in 2013 for the same platforms, as well as Steam in 2016 and PS4, Xbox One, and GOG in 2017.
Dragon’s Dogma is a gem of a game I feel is often overlooked by people. It came out in Skyrim’s massive wake and while it still sold fairly well, it didn’t do as well as Capcom had hoped. If you’re reading this, it hopefully means that you’re at least somewhat interested in what this game has to offer. In this guide I’ll mostly be talking about what the game is like, some of the intricacies of the game, what the difference is between the base game and Dark Arisen, and giving out some helpful tips.
i also had a How To: Metal Gear Solid half written but i got depressed when i got to the part where i had to explain what happened to the series so i stopped
If you’ve followed along with the firstthreeparts of this mapping guide, you should now know how to use Doom Builder’s tools to create a playable gamespace. This part will be more about abstract concepts like level design theory and detailing that will hopefully spice up your overall map layouts!
Since I’m taking a social media break and potentially abandoning Tumblr altogether, I might as well just post this thing that’s been in my drafts for I think over a year now. It’s not finished, but I hope it has some useful tips in it. Heavy image/gif usage under the cut!
